Suggestion #3
Parents - choose 1 activity that you still complete for your adult child. Think of something that you are hoping he or she will begin to exert control over. This can be paying bills or doing laundry or responding to emails, etc. Make a decision to end your time with that activity. Make sure you pick something that will be easy for you to ignore. Can you ignore their growing list of emails? Can you ignore their laundry piling up? This is a good way for you to begin letting go of control while allowing your adult child to face real life consequences. Start small and your confidence will grow. As you begin to feel more comfortable then you will be more courageous with additional activities.
